Experienced and first-time rafters love the Río Toro for full-day, class 3-4 rafting. The Río Toro offers over 45-continuous rapids along more than 16 kilometers of deep-canyon gorges and waterfalls where we often see sloths, monkeys and tropical birds, such as toucans and the Montezuma Oropendula. We operate small, personalized and private tours and we are the only company who runs the Río Toro!

Imagine rafting through exciting, action-packed rapids with names like “morning coffee,” "the Danish Taco," “coco loco,” “the eraser,” and the famous “B-F-W!”

This thrilling, once-in-a-lifetime adventure leaves at 8:30am from our office in La Fortuna. The Río Toro is the closest class 3-4 river to La Fortuna and the Arenal Volcano – only 1 hour away!

Once at the river, our experienced guides will give you a thorough safety talk, get you set up with your helmet, life jacket and paddle and then you're off – you'll be paddling for more than 3 hours – we'll stop along the way for a nice, tropical fruit break and afterward we take you out for a typical Costa Rican “casado” lunch. You'll return to La Fortuna and the Arenal Area around 3:30-4:00pm (the Río Toro is located only 1 hour from La Fortuna – it is much closer than the Sarapiqui).

The trip includes: tropical fruit, lunch, transportation, professionally-qualified bilingual guides, safety kayaker on all trips and an excellent day on the river!

Rafters should be ages 14 to 55 and in good physical condition. Although you don't need experience, rafters should know how to swim. Please bring secure shoes and dry clothes to change into.

Please note: if river conditions are unsuitable for the Río Toro, our head guide might make the call to change to a back-up river of equal level and/or offer our half-day whitewater inflatable kayak or raft tour – you're always guaranteed a fun day on the river!

Our full-day rafting trips are US$70.00 (min. 4 people).

Reservation Policy: Adventure tours such as whitewater rafting and kayaking require physical effort. Clients should be in good condition. For client safety and enjoyment, Desafío Adventure Company reserves the right to offer a substitution, postpone, change or cancel any tour due to unfavorable conditions. Full refund is given if (on rare occasion) a tour is cancelled.

All tours must be prepaid. Prepayment A signed Credit Card Authorization form must be returned to our office at least 48 hours prior to the date of the tour for confirmation. Credit cards are not charged until the day of the tour, although we reserve the right to verify that sufficient funds are available prior to confirming your tour.

Important: No refunds for no shows. Cancellations must be made 48 hours prior to tour.

Río Arenal Class 2-3 Rafting or Inflatable Whitewater Kayaking

We have one of the most-beautiful, world-class rivers for whitewater rafting of kayaking right in our own backyard – full of birds, tropical waterfalls, tons of rainforest wildlife and views of the Arenal Volcano along the way – the perfect river for first-time rafters with a sense of adventure or those looking to experience the independence of their own kayak through class 2-3 rapids. This is an ideal half-day tour because you don't have to drive very far to find some of the best whitewater in Costa Rica! Departs: 8:00am & 1:00pm Returns: 12:30pm & 5:30pm (located only 15 minutes from La Fortuna.) Includes: transport; professional, bilingual guides; safety kayaker; food & beverages.

We have one of the most-beautiful river canyons right in our own backyard -- Perfect for all whitewater adventurers! The river canyon is full of birds, tropical waterfalls and plenty of rainforest wildlife – experience the independence of your own kayak through Class 2-3 rapids or a guided raft – perfect for beginners and those looking for half-day river fun and adventure.

Includes : transport to/from your hotel in the La Fortuna area, professional bilingual guide, beverages, lunch, more than 30 class 2 and 3 rolling rapids, and 2.5 hours of river fun. Our trips run all-year because here in the rainforest, we get lots a nice, tropical rain for our rivers and the rivers are also dam-controlled.

We run this as a half-day trip because you don't have to drive very far. We depart : 8:00am from our office in La Fortuna and return around 12:30pm (the river is located only 15 minutes from La Fortuna). We also run a second trip: 1:00pm that returns around 5:00pm.

Although you don't need experience, you should know how to swim. Our half-day rafting trip is recommended for ages 7 to 55 – first-timers to expert! Please wear secure shoes, clothes to get wet in and dry clothes to change into.
